What’s In A Name?
Our name first came to existence as a play on our given names, taking the K from Kaitlyn and the “fait” sound from Parfait and combining these with the word “carafe” to form Karafé.
The name Karafé (pronounced ka-raf-ay), though, has an even deeper meaning to us. A quick Google search will tell us that the word “carafe” can be defined as an “an open-topped glass flask typically used for serving wine or water.” In addition, in Acts 2, when the Holy Spirit was poured out in the Upper Room in Jerusalem, onlookers suggested that those receiving this Pentecost experience were drunk, or”full of new wine,” when in reality, they were experiencing the presence of God unlike ever before.
With this in mind, we created the name Karafé to reflect who we are – two individuals who continually seek to be filled with the “new wine” of the Holy Spirit, and to be willing vessels, or carafes, if you will, through which God can move.
Meet the Karafé Team
We met in the latter half of 2018 while taking a French course at Southeast Missouri State University. Parfait, a Computer Science major and native speaker of French, was taking the class for some easy credit, while Kaitlyn was minoring in French alongside her English: Literature major, hoping to travel overseas to utilize these language skills.
Shortly after meeting, we became close friends, which later culminated in our marriage in 2021. During this time, we both graduated with our Bachelor’s degrees in our respective fields before Parfait later began working as a software developer and Kaitlyn returned to Southeast Missouri State University to obtain her Masters of Arts degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
